for Oboe and Wind Ensemble
Flourishing rhapsodies for the oboe separated by virtuosic, rhythmic interludes for the main orchestra. An Elegy for the ‘Royal Lyre of Ur’ recently lost to the world in the Iraq conflict.14 minutes
A most welcome addition to an area of repertoire not exactly brimming with choice items; the woodwind choir. Scored for flutes, oboes, bassoons, saxophones, string bass and a full complement of clarinets, full of warm, characteristic instrumental writing, very pleasing in a traditional idiom and mercifully avoiding all those clichés we’ve come to know and hate. Enjoyable to play, and with
enough tricky corners to keep you on your toes.
Burlesque for Saxophone Ensemble is a re-scoring by the composer of his original work for Clarinet Choir. It is a kaleidoscopic piece which exploits the entire saxophone family in every conceivable colour and mood; lyrical, violent, joyous, strident, vibrant, tranquil and at times grotesque. A brilliant, serious piece and a perfect addition to the repertoire. Duration 13 minutes

For Wind Ensemble - Winner of the BASCA Award for best Wind Band work 2009
Farewell is a large-scale symphonic Adagio written for the National Youth Wind Ensemble of Wales and is “serious” Gorb! Players are formed into two ensembles each with its own distinctive character, sometimes anguished and desperate and at other times calm and introspective. A stunning climax heralds yet a third ensemble the work closing with a haunting ‘dominating fourth’ leaving only a solo oboe and clarinet lamenting quietly over a gently intoned modus in diabilis from the rest of the ensemble. 20 minutes
