Commissioned by the WASBE Schools Band Network consortium of over 60 enterprising individuals and organizations.
For three years New Zealander Christopher Marshall lived in the exotically idyllic surroundings of Samoa, and his piece conjures up its endlessly fascinating atmosphere and sounds, its hypnotic languor, rich culture and popular dances. Resourcefully cued with alternatives to put it in the range even of bands with quite uncertain attendance — and expertise — this magical tone poem is a must for anyone who wants to add a bit more colour to their lives.

Interruption Overture is the musical inverse of Bryant's Chester Leaps In. In the latter, a familiar theme interrupts angular, dissonant music, whereas Interruption Overture consists of a straightforward theme in Bb major repeatedly interrupted by dissonant chords and bursts of simple aleatory ideas. These techniques are intended to serve as educational tools in addition to their musical function, exposing younger musicians to a broader-than-usual musical palette.
