As the piece nears its conclusion, the music rushes toward what seems to be an explosive finish. But the woodwinds interrupt, fanning out to a questioning whole tone cluster. They are answered by a puff of sound - the final disappearing act !

Afternoon of a Puppy (L'apres-midi d'un chiot) gets the idea for its title from the tone poem Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun (Prelude a i'apres-midi d'un faune) composed by French Impressionist Claude Debussy in 1894. Like the Prelude, this piece is programmatic — it is inspired or motivated by a non-musical idea. As you listen to this piece, imagine the exploits of a puppy through a typical afternoon.

Scotland's greatest story teller, Robert Burns was born in Alloway, near Ayr in 1759, and died in 1796. This arrangement of his three best songs includes an optional part for speaker ( Good Scots accent preferred !)
The first song is a portrait of Duncan Gray, who rides into the village to woo Maggie. After some initial misgivings on Maggie's part, wedding bells are in the air, and both live happily ever after.
The second portrait is of Mary Campbell, who lies asleep by the gently flowing Afton Water. This is one of Burn's most beautiful settings, and in this arrangement, the flugel horn is featured.
The final song, The De'ils Awa wi the Exciseman, sees the scourge of the village, the customs man, spirited away by the Devil in a flurry of dust and hooves. They leave behind some very happy villagers who waste no time in celebrating their good fortune with jigs, drums and fun galore.

Cleverly arranged to feature a duet with flexible instrument combinations, this popular holiday standard (featured in the movie Elf) is sure to become a holiday favorite with your band.
From the opening sound of field drums and distant muted trumpets this well-crafted arrangement takes this familiar Civil War anthem through a variety of moods and styles. Building to a dramatic full ensemble climax, it then very effectively tapers to quiet ending. This is a wonderful way to celebrate the era of Lincoln and his 200th birthday in 2009.
