Alpine Overture takes its inspiration from the rugged and beautiful mountain ranges of the state of Washington. A majestic opening provides an accurate backdrop for the "rugged peaks." A smooth transition leads to the contrasting "Andante" which depicts the "peaceful mountain meadows" in a lovely, flowing style. Then, a dramatic return to the main theme brings Alpine Overture to a brilliant close!

A dignified yet dramatic overture conjuring visions of the beautiful mid-American countryside, particularly that of Albemarle County in Virginia, where the home of James Monroe, 5th president of the United States, is located. Brilliant and exciting, this work hearkens back to the turbulent times of a new nation.

The kid in each of us loves the circus. Probably the finest musical work ever written to celebrate the "Greatest Show on Earth" is Karl King's classic march. Jerry Brubaker has carefully extracted the technical difficulties while keeping the most recognizable integrity of the work. Your audience will immediately recognize each of the beloved melodies. The spirit of the scoring is superlative! (1:56)

Heralded by a fanfare-like figure for trumpets in the first strain, here is an appealing German-style march solidly scored for young players. Low brass take the lead on the second strain, followed by a contrasting lyrical section featuring the woodwinds. The full ensemble brings us to a rousing finish in this terrific-sounding march. (This is a nice follow-up to Johnnie's earlier “international” marches St. Petersburg March, New Forest March and The Crown of Castile. )

Grade 2.0 Duration 1.40
This short processional was designed to be played as a concert opener but can equally be used as a sort of extended fanfare at presentations, graduation ceremonies and similar occasions. Its title evokes the noble grandeur of the university buildings in the English town of Cambridge where "pomp and circumstance" are still a normal part of life.
A fanfare-like passage opens and closes the work and sandwiches a more legato central section.
