Energetic themes, colorful orchestration, vocal textures and playful rhythms make A Simple Celebration attractive for concert or contest. Many opportunities for expressive playing are found throughout the solo passages, the introspective transitions, and plaintive "Andante" section. The return of the opening theme provides a fast-paced development, leading to a rhythm puzzle that finds its solution in the triumphal conclusion. A sure winner!

In the fourteenth chapter of Genesis there is a story of a rebellion led by Chedorlaomer, the King of Elam. Chedorlaomer and three other Kings joined together to ravage and conquer everything that lay in their path. They were met in battle at the Valley of Siddim (the Salt Sea) by an army mustered from the forces of the King of Sodom, the King of Gommorrah (pre-destruction days, of course . . .), the King of Admah, the King of Zebolim, and the King of Bela. Unfortunately this opposition army was not a match for Chedorlaomer and each of these city kingdoms, including Sodom and Gomorrah, were overrun. Chedorlaomer's forces, as was the custom, pillaged and fled with all the goods and provisions of the cities. Unfortunately for Chedorlaomer, his men also kidnapped Lot, Abram's brother's son. This of course, is the same Abram who later became Abraham, Father of the Jewish Nation, and a very close friend of GOD. (In retrospect, this was probably Chedorlaomer's "not-so-bright-decision-of-the-campaign"!) When Abram heard that Lot was taken captive, he armed three hundred and eighteen trained servants who were born in his house and went in pursuit of the invaders. With this small contingent, he divided his forces against the kings, attacked, and routed Chedorlaomer's entire army, recovering Lot and his goods, as well as all the women and people who had been kidnapped during the conquest!!

A gently mysterious introduction leads us on a lyrical journey that culminates with a powerful and majestic final statement. This first movement from Symphony of Prayer explores the various quiet, and not so quiet manners, in which adoration can be expressed. Two beautiful and austere themes highlight this deeply personal and moving work.

Aesop's Fables, for narrator and band, musically portrays four tales attributed to the ancient moralist. The four movements are based on "The Hare and The Tortoise," "The Boy Who Cried Wolf," "The Dog and The Bone" and "The Wolf and His Shadow." Dynamic and highly dramatic!

A stunning work of gigantic proportion -- filled with the mystery, the fire and the intrigue of the Dark Continent. A large percussion section will give this composition its drive. Robert suggests that all available percussionists encircle the audience in the final section, drawing the audience inside the worship circle.

Written as a variation of the Rondo form, this piece consists of a main theme, two subordinate themes and a coda--ABACAB,Coda. Thematic repetition is seldom exact and is varied in harmonic content, instrumental color and contrapuntal techniques. All sections of the band have interesting and lyrical lines to play and a full percussion battery provides rhythmic motion and liveliness throughout. (Grade 4)

A musical excursion into the American driving experience. From majestic mountain vistas and wide open spaces to the hustle and bustle of rush hour traffic. There is even a section about the beloved covered bridge. Find one and there’s bound to be an interesting little two-lane country road leading up to it. The piece is designed around just two themes which are tied together in the final section which the composer calls Our Favorite Road. This can be the road to the beach, to the mountains or just simply cruisin’ with the top down on a summer afternoon!
Carroll just writes so eloquently for the medium and this is the work that put him on the wind music map. A triumph of thematic, atmospheric and rhythmic variety, its use of Greek modes adds spice to warmly coloured harmonies. Beautifully paced, never over-scored and within the range of most accomplished bands.

Roland Barrett has scored this original composition to musically reflect that sentiment conveying the inherent beauty, majesty, and grandeur of planet Earth. Combining fluid moving melodic components with energetic and driving rhythmic pulse, the work will capture the imagination of all. (5:30)
