Carroll just writes so eloquently for the medium and this is the work that put him on the wind music map. A triumph of thematic, atmospheric and rhythmic variety, its use of Greek modes adds spice to warmly coloured harmonies. Beautifully paced, never over-scored and within the range of most accomplished bands.
