One of the simplest and most beautiful melodies of all time. The origin of the melody is unknown. Most hymnals attribute it to an early American folk melody. The lyrics was written by the slave trader John Newton after he had "seen the light" and released all his slaves. Newton later became a minister. This arrangement was made for a concert with Norrköping Symphony Orchestra in 1989. It is technically easy and works well for a school orchestra and a relatively unexperienced soloist. The set is delivered with solo part in Bb, C and E-flat, treble- and bass clef. The arrantgement is open for imrovisation in the solo part, but a composed improvisation can be used.
