The tango is the most alluring of contemporary dances, and a number of arrangements of it exist, including ones for solo piano and for various chamber ensembles. This version was arranged by the composer in 1999 for 30 (or more) players.

Russian Easter Music I for Wind Ensemble
Originally commissioned by the musicians of the Ural Philharmonic Orchestra in Russia, This Is the Day draws on material from McAlister's earlier epic for wind orchestra, "Pascha". All the material has been extracted from elements of the Russian Orthordox litergy and has been forged into a single movement in three contiuous sections which have enormous sweep and power. This passionate committed celebration of Russia's Easter is a wonderful addition to the repertoire and suitable for both community and professional bands alike.

Referring to the founder of Pennsylvania, William Penn, this suite of three appealing settings reflects on the origins and character of this state. The suite opens with the lighthearted 6/8 setting “Punxsutawny Phil.” Next is “Moravian Hymn Variants” which is solemn and rich-sounding, but with a brief spirited middle variation. “Independence Hall” concludes this well-written work in a stately and majestic style.

Fear, anxiety, adrenaline, and a sheer rush of excitement all take center stage in this musical depiction of a rollercoaster ride. After percussion simulate the sound of a lift hill, the ride is off in an action-packed series of drops, turns, and loops. Eventually the riders get their hands up in the air and revel in the unabashed joy of the moment before the ride comes to its end. Unique and powerful! (2:15)

Based on clusters of sound and an unrelenting rhythmic drive, the music was imagined after the composer’s home was hit by lightning. The work has an urgency about it that is juxtaposed with brief moments of release before tension builds once again. Percussion plays a big role throughout and a modular twist occurs toward the end as the inexhaustible energy moves into a fiery conclusion. (1:45)
