Exploring layers of sounds as well as an expanded role for the percussion section, this work also calls for a middle section where all members of the band perform with egg shakers. A substantial work, but with a dash of fun!

Symphonic Prelude was written on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the founding of the St. Andrews school centre in Singapore. After a festive opening in the trumpet(s), a brisker passage based on the school song follows, which then leads to a lyrical middle section. At the close, the opening motif reappears and comes to the fore. The colourful, dynamic instrumentation makes thisSymphonic Prelude an excellent appetizer to open your concert.

Gilbert Tinner combined a number of hits by the well-known British rock group Queen - and a song by Genesis, also a rock formation from England - to form an exciting arrangement with the telling title Symphonic Rock. The instrumentation can indeed be called symphonic, but important instruments from pop music are also present. For instance, an important role is played by the electric guitar, and a synthesizer is used as well.
