The designation spheres was the geocentric (Earth-centric) idea that describes the firmament of concentric transparent shells at different distances which rotate at different rates and attached to which are the sun, moon and the stars.
The work, "Spheres", in German "cases," tries to describe this in music.
In the beginning the earth (earth's crust) is described with a powerful fanfare.
This is followed, after a tumultuous transition, the description of the emptiness of the individual spheres.
Tempo now rises, according to Pythagoras' theory that rotating spheres produce a "heavenly" music, a pulse and a melody.
The construction ends in a brilliant Allegro, which symbolizes that the although the spheres are independent individuals, from them the whole universe is a unit.
The work was dedicated by the Youth Music Ostermundigen the company Ziswiler Recycling Ltd in gratitude for the extremely generous financial support.

Spider Legs is a vibrant Latin dance number. Stylistically Spider Legs can best be described as ‘Merengue House’ but perhaps it is better without any description! It was composed in 2014, shortly after the birth of the composer's granddaughter who was nicknamed ‘Spider Legs’ - the name fit the music so well!

Inspired by a trip to Honolulu, this music embodies the “aloha spirit” that so many discover when visiting the islands of Hawaii. Making use of a wealth of authentic percussion instruments (along with many options for substitutions), the piece truly captures the bright spirit of Hawaii. An optional ukulele part is cued in other instruments, and the piece concludes with a powerful rendition of Hawaii Aloha, an anthem of great pride to those who live in Hawaii. Magical! (4:45)

Spirit of Andalusia was commissioned by The Glasgow Wind Band. The brief was to create a fascinating 5-minute opener, however, during the compositional process, the piece started to take the form of a Spanish influenced composition. The composer decided to stick to this involuntary development and started producing a tribute to Spanish music, in particular, Flamenco - which originates from the region of Andalusia. He uses exciting rhythms and colours from the musical culture.

Spirit of Endeavour is a virtuosic piece of music with a positive musical message. It tells the story of a wind band embracing hard work, friendship, musical excellence, love, marriage and birth, as well as the sad loss of cherished members. Composer Philip Sparke decided to salute the history of the Canadian concert band ‘Harmonie de Charlesbourg’ with a work that falls into two contrasted sections. One Vision deals with forming the band and the subsequent united desire to create an ensemble espousing the idea of musical perfection. The Pursuit of Excellence salutes the 20 years of hard work of the wind band. This concert work ends with a chorale of the full band, symbolising the fulfilment of a united dream!
