Grade 1.5 Duration 4.05
A moderate rock feel and gritty, dissonant harmonies combine to portray the sound of industry---work gangs laboring with machinery whirring, clanging, grinding, and banging, along with several vocal shouts from the band and a factory whistle!

Difficulty: 4
Duration: 11m 12s
Manfred Schneider (1953), musician with the German Army Band Heeresmusikkorps 300 in Koblenz, has already proved his merits with his overture 'Uspide Down', the 'Song of Freedom' and the rhythmical etude 'Rock and Go', all published with Molenaar edition. This 'Rock Symphony' consists of contemporary rhythms alternating with more lyrical passages. Precisely these contrasts and the diversity of the composition make it extremely fascinating.

Grade 4.0 Duration 11.00
This is a continuous set of variations on the famous Ronde tune by sixteenth century composer, Tielman Susato. To add spice, Bedford takes a sequence of chords from Wagner’s opera Tristan und Isolde and allows a slower section to use these chords to provide yet another variation, hence the title.

From Symphony No.9 transcribed for Wind Orchestra
Mahler was at the height of his powers when he wrote his 9th Symphony in 1909 declaring 'I am thirstier for life than ever'! His great admirer Alban Berg thought it "the expression of an unheard love for this earth and the longing to live in place upon her......before death comes". Indeed Leonard Berstien described each movement as a 'farewell', and the third (Rondo Burleske) as a particular farewell to urban society. The Rondo Burleske appears as the second scherzo of the symphony. In character it is at first sprightly then suddenly hysterical and finally demonic. The 'burlesque' element reflects the reality and grotesqueness of the city culture surely referencing the extremes of Mahler's own artistic experience in Vienna. In this transcription Gorb faithfully represents the exhilarating character and textures of Mahler's writing lending his own imaginative flair for colour to the orchestration and in doing so triumphantly bringing Mahler's artistic achievement to the wind orchestra repertory. Duration 12.30 minutes.
