This concert march is one of two that were written to fulfill a commission from the grammar school of Xinmin in Singapore and was premiered at the concert celebrating that schools 65th anniversary in 2010. Benjamin Yeo’s colourful orchestration creates an exciting soundscape by contrasting virtuosic melodies with lush, full sounds. All sections of the band are represented well in Jubilance, while the ample voice doublings create a full sound that will surprise even the largest bands!

Jubilo meaning 'joyful' was commissioned to celebrate the birthday of a man "who loved life and lived well"! Carroll's fingerprint (very Irish) rhythmic style is in evidence but remarkably user friendly - no perceived difficulties here. A piece technically suitable for a reasonable school band (two high "G"s for Horns 1 and 3) and which has prominent parts for the percussion section.

"Jump Start" was not only inspired by the bursting energy of the spark needed to "jump-start" a vehicle, but also by the individual words of "jump" and "start" which instilled a feeling of leeping to go.
The piece bustles with a jazzy, lively energy and features an angular, leaping melody filled with starts and stops that occur in fits and spurts.
The melody runs throughout the piece and is explored not only through jazzy big-band flourishes and weaving textures, but also through warmly glowing, reflective and slightly bluesy chords that peacefully linger and allow the melody's lyrical qualities to shine.

Intermediate Difficulty.
Just as you are is a laid back, almost ‘smoky’, number where the relaxed tempo and ‘bluesy’ notation is prevalent. The piece is structured in ABA form that offers the listener a sense of familiarity when the opening theme returns. This is a contrasting item that leans on the saxophone section to provide a beautifully calm, unhurried feel.

The Keystone Kops was a series of silent comedies featuring an incompetent group of policemen. They first appeared in the 1912 film Hoff meyer’s Legacy but it was the 1913 feature The Bangville Police that confirmed their popularity. The Keystone Kops were renowned for making mistakes, particularly with a great deal of energy and activity, and all done with a major lack of coordination. Carl Davis’s energetic theme provides a fitting musical portrait of a silverscreen phenomenon.
