Thomas Tallis was a 16th Century English composer who wrote a wide variety of music for the Catholic Church and later for the English (Anglican) Church. He wrote several pieces for the English Hymnal and this is the source of the music for On a Thomas Tallis Theme. It has a flowing, gentle feel, and a strong melodic curve combined with rich triadic harmonies.

This piece was written for my good friend, Kris Tjornehoj. It was premiered with the University of Wisconsin River Falls symphonic Band in November 2007. Dr. Tjornehoj conducts the band and orchestra and teaches music education courses at the University of Wisconsin River Falls.
