Grade 1.0 Duration 2.23 Standard of Excellence Series. The Chugach (choo’gach) Mountains create a scenic backdrop for Alaska’s largest city, Anchorage. Much of this mountain ranges within the Chugach National Forest, which covers 5.6 million acres (roughly the size of New Hampshire). The tallest mountain in the Chugach Range is Mt.
