The Voice on the Mountain is dedicated to Mike Veak who recently retired to the mountains of Estes Park, Colorado, after more ian 30 years of teaching instrumental music in Lincoln, Nebraska. In addition to his many contributions to the state of Nebraska s the Executive Director of the Nebraska Music Educators Association, Mike was known as the ?voice? of the University of Nebraska Cornhusker Marching Band.
 
 
 
The piece begins with a flute solo representing a solitary voice on a mountain. The voice begins to build strength and intensity as it travels down the mountain, is heard by others, and is communicated to distant lands. This is a musical metaphor for a teacher a solitary voice - who impacts generations of students.
