As was also the case with his “8 Hymns”, “8 Adagios” and “20 Tune Ups”, the Dutch composer Henk van Lijnschooten (The Hague, 1929-), the pioneer of modern Dutch wind band music, intended these “8 Sound Studies” as warming-up tunes or intermezzi with as main purpose of tuning up and learning to get control of the sound balance of your band.
